Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District Earns “Fire Safe South Carolina” Community Designation

The Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District has received its “Fire Safe South Carolina 2023” Community Designation.”

The Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District and the other fire departments in the state, which also earned the designation, “continually work to reduce fires and related injuries in South Carolina, resulting in decreased risks for residents and firefighters. They also promote consistent fire safety messaging and learn the importance of collecting and reporting quality data from fire scenes,” according to Fire Safe SC.

“We are excited that the Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District has been designated as a 2023 ‘Fire Safe Community’ through the State of South Carolina. To earn this recognition, we had to meet several goals in various areas, from home safety visits to completing fire academy courses relative to community risk reduction and more,” Landrum Fire Marshal Chaz Price said. “This achievement would not have been possible without the help of our staff and community partners. Our community is our priority. We would also like to congratulate the other 150 departments in S.C. that have also worked to achieve this goal.”

Chief Warren Ashmore added, “’Neighbors Protecting Neighbors’ isn’t just a slogan for us. It’s a mindset. Earning the ‘Fire Safe South Carolina’ community designation again symbolizes the work our staff invests in community risk reduction. Thanks to Fire Marshal Chaz Price and all of the district’s personnel who are out each day to help keep our community safe.”

The Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District and other departments earning this designation will be publicly recognized at the Fire-Rescue Conference this June in Myrtle Beach.

Fire Safe SC was started in 2017 by a coalition that includes the S.C. State Firefighters’ Association, the S.C. State Association of Fire Chiefs, the S.C. Fire Marshal Association, the S.C. Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, and the S.C. Office of State Fire Marshal.

About the Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District

The Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District was created on June 3, 2015 by Act 48 of the South Carolina General Assembly to address evolving fire and emergency needs of the coverage area of the former Landrum Fire Department that included the incorporated City of Landrum, a contract area in Spartanburg County outside (but adjacent to) the city, and approximately 22% of the Foothills Fire Service Area in Greenville County. The district was created to transition from a part-time paid department relying primarily on volunteers to a full-time paid staff of fire fighters with emergency response personnel augmented by volunteers.
