Landrum Observes the 17th Anniversary of 9/11

When tragedy strikes, communities come together. On September 11, 2001, one of this nation’s most terrifying tragedies brought the entire country together.

Today, on the 17th anniversary of the terror attacks on the United States, communities in and around Landrum came together to remember those who lost their lives.

If you couldn’t join us today, we hope you will be able to join us next year and will look at photos from this year’s observance.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Have you had difficulty making or receiving cell phone calls in our area? Have you tried to dial 911 in an emergency and been directed to a dispatcher in a different county or state than where you were calling? If so, we need to hear from you.

We are working with cellular company representatives and state government leaders to work on solutions for reception and location issues to make sure that when you need emergency services, you are routed to the right call center at the right time to send you the right assistance, and to also make sure that you and those dispatchers can hear each other.

If you’ve had any issues, please email warren.ashmore@landrumfire.com with your name, your cellular number, your cellular provider, the location you had the issue, and what the issue was.

We are compiling the problems that need addressing and working with carriers to address them, but we can’t do it without your input.

Following Sunday night’s remembrance of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District Chief Warren Ashmore issued the following statement.

The commissioners and personnel of the Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District would like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who participated in, attended, and helped coordinate last Sunday’s observance of the 15th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the United States.

Among the 2977 victims who lost their lives that day were 343 members of the FDNY, 37 police officers of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, 23 officers with the NYPD, and 8 EMTs and paramedics.

The members of the Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District are among the millions of Americans who will be forever grateful for the sacrifices of these brave public servants. We vow to never forget their heroism in the face of unspeakable terror, and we are humble to live in and serve a community who holds those lives as dear.”
