Landrum Fire Receives 2024 “Fire Safe South Carolina” Community Designation

Landrum, S.C. — The Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District has once again been recognized as a “Fire Safe South Carolina” community, earning the 2024 designation alongside 206 other departments across the state. The recognition highlights the district’s ongoing efforts to reduce fire-related injuries and improve safety through education, prevention, and data-driven response.

The designation is awarded by Fire Safe South Carolina (FSSC) in partnership with state and national fire service organizations. It reflects a department’s commitment to community risk reduction, public outreach, and the collection of accurate data to help shape future safety strategies.

“Our team is proud to be recognized again as a Fire Safe SC community,” said Chief Warren Ashmore. “This honor reflects our department’s dedication to protecting lives and property — not just through emergency response, but by educating our residents and working to prevent emergencies before they happen.”

To earn the designation, departments must complete specific training, document public education efforts, and collaborate with local organizations to address risk factors in their communities. In 2024, statewide results showed remarkable progress: over 1.1 million South Carolinians were reached through fire and life safety initiatives—up 70% from the previous year.

“This recognition is a testament to the strong relationship between our firefighters and the community,” said Pam Hilsman, chair of the district commission. “We’re grateful for the support of our residents and proud of our firefighters who go above and beyond to serve Landrum with excellence and care.”

Landrum Area Fire and Rescue District will be formally honored at the Fire Safe SC Award Ceremony on June 13 during the 2025 Fire-Rescue Conference in Myrtle Beach.
